Clemency Recipient Sent Back to Prison Following New Assault Charges
Nov, 11 2025
Braun, 42, had his original drug trafficking sentence commuted by Trump on his last day in office. He was charged with violating supervised release after prosecutors alleged he assaulted his children's nanny by putting her in a headlock and forcing her to touch him inappropriately. Additionally, he was accused of threatening a nurse at a hospital and physically assaulting a 3-year-old child.
Federal inmate records indicate that Braun is currently held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. Following his sentencing, Judge Kiyo A. Matsumoto mandated that Braun undergo rehabilitation for drug abuse and mental health issues.
Braun is noted as the eighth individual granted clemency by Trump who has faced new criminal charges since their release. His past includes being a significant figure in an international drug smuggling operation that transported large quantities of marijuana into the United States prior to the legalization of recreational marijuana in New York.
After initially fleeing to Israel during a federal investigation, Braun returned to the U.S. and pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges in 2010. His sentencing was delayed until 2019, when he was ordered to serve 10 years in prison. He was released in 2021 after his family leveraged connections to Trump’s administration.
The White House has not commented on Braun's recent sentencing or the vetting process that led to his clemency. Prosecutors described Braun's actions as causing significant fear and harm to his victims, labeling him a serious danger to the community.
